Hi Jim:
I’m no XML expert, but I’ve worked in the IS Enterprise software area implementing SAP, and interfacing data with strategic partners through traditional EDI models.
I am full time REI now, but prior to the DOT.com collapse, took courses in HTML, advanced HTML, JavaSript etc. Way back, I worked as a “Software Consultant” implementing Accounting Systems for small businesses.
My suggestion is the know an Industry well paying particular attention to the “business processes”. Only then can you recognize problems, solutions where you apply your XML, or whatever other programming knowledge.
One of my fomer bosses implementing the SAP project several years ago went to a startup using the WEB providing services to the Real Estate Industry. The URL is:
He’s still there despite the DOT.com collpase, so business must be OK.
I just took a look at the WEBsite, and they had some discussions regarding XML (XML 1.0 for Real Estate) on the home page. It also talks about the services they provide.
Good luck.
