When you record the deed at the county, you need to fill out a PCOR (Preliminary Change of Ownership Report). Make sure you use the CALIFORNIA GRANT DEED on the disk.
In most states, the county has some form similar to the PCOR, which gives the county some miscellaneous info, including whether or not the transaction is subject to transfer tax.
