What Should You Expect from a Lawyer re: closing - Posted by scbuck

If you set up a closing date, the attorney would have the title work completed before the closing. If you believe there might be title problems, you should put the attorney on notice.

If you did not set up a closing date, the attorney would be wasting time doing title work when no closing date has been set.

I have a very simple closing for an attorney - paying all cash so no mortgage involved, just need a title check. I hired an attorney and sent him the earnest money for the property.

Well, after a month, apparently the title work has still not been done. My feeling is that this deal could have closed in a week or two. Is that unreasonable or is it the norm that real estate lawyers just get around to things when it fits their schedule? What is reasonable to expect?

Yes, it is reasonable to expect a cash deal to close within a week or two. So, what does the attorney say when you ask him?
