It’s the same as applying for credit. You are asking someone to lend you their house. They will probably run a credit report and do employment verifications too.

I am filling out a rental form in the state of OK. Is it legal for them to ask for bank acct. & income amount? I have never had to provide such personal info before.

If they follow the procedures my Property Managers in TX and AZ use, they will also do a criminal check, sex offender check, and look for judgments. This is normal. If you haven’t seen this before, you’ve been renting from people who are not taking care of both their properties, the communities, and their tenants.
For example, my brother in law has a house that backs on a day care center, is a block from an elementary school, and is a couple of blocks from another day care center. Our first applicant was a convicted child molester. The law REQUIRES we not rent this property to that tenant.
Bank and income information is evidence of whether or not you are financially responsible. We’re in the business of renting, and that means we collect the rent. The properties that don’t require these things are usually in bad neighborhoods.
