Weirdest Thing You've Done to Impress a Hiring Manager

Curious about the weirdest things you’ve done (or said) in an interview to try and impress someone.

A few years ago, I had an interview at a startup, and the founder mentioned they loved dogs. Naturally, I started rambling about my “experience” with dogs and somehow ended up showing them pictures of my childhood dog, Max. I thought it would be relatable, but the founder just stared and said, “So… no actual work experience with animals then?”

I still cringe whenever I think about it. Definitely didn’t get a call back.

The weirdest thing I’ve done to impress a hiring manager was presenting a solution to a challenge they hadn’t mentioned yet, showing initiative and creativity. It caught their attention and demonstrated my proactive problem-solving skills!

I’ve totally been there, trying to make a good impression and tumbling.
