Probably going to be a strict matter of local law. Start with local law enforcement, sounds like you already did, and ask them how to go about it. Somewhere in your local laws there is one dealing with “abandoned” vehicles and someone who knows that law.
Code enforcement, county attorney or district attorney might be sources too, but I’m betting the cop shop knows how it’s done.
I just got two lots transferred into my name from an 87 year old lady who was going to let them go to county tax forfeit.
The lot has city water and sewer already in and I want to put a manufactured home on the lots.
The problem: There is a rough looking harley dude living next door and he has a full size school bus, and 5 other cars and trucks parked on the lots. He has had them there for years I expect because the old lady never visited the lots.
How can I get his junk vehicles off of my lots?
The city police talked to him a couple weeks ago and he still has not moved any of the vehicles.
Can I get someone to tow them at his expense? Call the county sheriff?
I’ve had a bit of experience at this. Here are a few different ways to eliminate them:
Talk to the neighbor directly, and make nice-nice, admire the “hog” etc. Leave handwritten note to call if no one home.
Send letter and “notice” to neighbor to move vehicles by a reasonable date, like a nice guy neighbor would ask (friendly but direct)
Contact City/County code enforcement and indicate the vehicles are not yours, are an attractive nuisance, etc.
Have “elves” move or tow vehicles into street then call police to haul off
If no tow, have “friends of elves” haul off for a few bucks
If “elves” balk, have an auction company lien sale the vehicles due to lack of payment of storage rent/charges, just like the impound yards do. You’ll get legal title (pink slips) and can do anything you want with the offending vehicles. Any olds Ferraris? (I can help…had to ask)
I once had a problem with a Neighbor who did the same thing and it became such a eyesore. I was told to contact the Mayor of the City since the Police Chief works for him. I did that as a last resort after going through all the proper steps and within 2 days the vehicles were gone. Just my 2 cents.
