It sounds like the judgment keeps showing up on their credit report. Did you ever file a satisfaction of judgment or whatever your state calls it when they paid your judgment off? If not, do the right thing and do it now.

LLong story short. Evicted a family 5 years ago in Chicago for nonpayment. The left peacefully, and paid the back rent judgement AFTER the judge ruled against them.

I gave them a reciept.

1 year later, they are trying to buy a house, but eviction is on their record. They want a notarized letter stating that they have paid their debt in full (about 1000$ or so).

Fast forward 4 more years, and I get a call today. Their credit still is horrible, and they still can’t buy a house. They want me to “call all the credit agencies” to let they know they have paid…

Huh? I never reported anything to the credit agencies, I am assuming that the courts did. I have given them proof of payment, multiple times. Not to mention, I now live out of state.

What if any obligation do I have here? They went back to court (supposedly), and the judge told them that the courts can’t fix their FICO to show payment. They claim that the judge said that I would have to do that.

Huh, again? I am a local landlord, not a corporation. How would I change their records to show payment?!

I am trying to be nice here, but I am getting rather tired of still dealing with them…

Thoughts?

There is a form you are supposed to file once the judgment is satisfied (paid) that removes the judgment. You file it with the court (after all, unless you tell them, they don’t know if they paid). Should have done this right away.
