The assessor’s office will have information on the value of the property and what neighboring properties they used as comps. It will probably also give details on the basics of the house – # of br, # of bath, total rooms, garages, decks, proches, lot size, etc. Accuracy varies widely though.
In the recorder’s office you will be able to find the mortgages, liens, etc against the property (these may be filed elsewhere also, for instance my county files mechanics liens in the court records). You can also find out how long the people have owned the property which will help you determine the loan balance.
