Sorry if the first time sexual experience was a lonely one spent under covers with a National Geographic… but like you said… by morning you were a pro!

Hey there,
Ya, so since I feel like a rookie I act like a rookie. Well not all the time, but when the heat gets turned up a degree or two and I have no experience I’m floundering! I’m going to meet this attorney today, I’m nervous and I cant stand it! All I’m doing is having him look at some documents of mine so I know I’m not breakin the law, easy…right!?! So how come I feel like a little kid who has no clue? I’ve never had anxiety problems before, but geez! I causes me to procrastinate and make excuses and a whole lot of other detrimental things which do NOT help me! So whats the deal for a newbie, just grow a thick hide and get tanned a couple times cause you dont really know what your doing? That makes sense to me, but I’m having trouble with the confidence level since my experience consists of just about d**k. I’m not going to cancel my meeting with him or anything, I’d just like to hear how those of you who started up in this with no money, no experience, no age(I’m 22) got past this beginning crap!?! Please let me know cause I hate it and desperately need to move past it! AARRGHHHHH!
I’m a very confident person usually, but something about this causes me to tense up something vicious!

Well, its off to the attorney’s! Best of days to you all! Have a good one!

You are always going to feel like a rookie the first time doing something. That is normal. After you do it successfully a few times, the rookie part wears off and you won’t be nervous or anxous any longer.

I remember the first time I had sex. I was a rookie and very nervous. The 2nd time was easier since I knew more. The 3rd time was even easier. As you can see, by the 4th and 5th times, everything got easier and the rookie shed into a someone more experienced. Heck, by the next morning, I was a pro.

Brad, keep chugging away…You’ll build your confidence with knowing who you are and from experience, which unfortunately, is relative with age. My story to give you some motivation…This year I bought 4 properties (including my first home). Sometimes I look back and wonder how in the heck I did it. It wasn’t easy, but I did it and am very excited what the future holds. I’m 27, live in Southern California, and plan to someday invest in real estate as my lifetime job. I plan to purchase my 5th property early next year. Just thought I would shoot that out to you. Good luck!

What a coincidence, I felt the same way when I started in 1972 age 21. I still do, to a certain extent.

Remember, no matter how painful, doing it is better than not doing it.

Or would you rather be 50 years old, working for wages at a job you hate, trying to figure out how you were going to pay your cable bill and wondering what would have happened if you had the guts to strike out on your own back in 2003?

like a chief. By all means use the I’m new and stupid for as long as you can. It is an excellent tool and in your case it’s the TRUTH! OK not the stupid part
Go to everybody you know that you think has a clue and butter em up. There’s nothing a successful person likes to talk about more than themselves. Buyers like to help out the new guy cause he hasn’t learned how to screw em yet, sellers too. Bankers love to expound on their knowledge, as do realtors, and lawyers, (just ask John Hyre) Here’s a clue: whose words of advice do you take? the rich guy with lots of experience or the poor guy? Just don’t judge by appearances cause the real successful one hardly ever wear suits except bankers and they ain’t a very creative bunch.

Don’t be scared. Take that youthful exuberance, plop down in his chair and say, everyone says they wishes they had started when they were my age and I am! Can you help me?

Good Luck,
Shawn(OH)

Hate to generalize…BUT

only a man would consider himself a pro after five times.

This one truly had me LMAO! You are such a treasure–we are so lucky to have a writer such as yourself on this board.

Thanks Glenn,
I agree with the thought. My concept of adulthood has changed significantly since finding this site and some others. I’ve learned valuable things about how to live. One of the best ones, and one thats plagued me my whole life is the idea of productivity. I’ve always felt that I’m not productive and need to be. These sites have helped me grow and realize that being responsible is not just something that you do when you where a suit, its something that MUST play a role in everything you do. Its all up to you baby! I’ve yet to REALLY do anything to change my situation, but believe it will happen, but more importantly… am taking action to MAKE it happen. THis does not only apply to RE, its all-inclusive.

PS- I’m probably in a good mood because I attended the last lectures of my college career today!!!

Also, in many situations in life, if you pretend to be new and/or stupid (the two are NOT necessarily counterparts!) you can sometimes get much further than being a hard-a$$ who knows everything and has to negotiate out every penny. I’ve seen it work many, many times (even done it occasionally myself). I think the old-school phrase for this was being “dumb like a fox”.

Trust me, a lot of people are nervous when they’re doing this stuff. The trick is not to let the fact that you’re nervous stop you from doing it!
