RON LEGRAND RIP-OFF - Posted by Dan(IN)

Brain,

What I would do is document the calls. I would start a log, get the name of the person who called and the date and time. Then if they continue to harrass you, I see no other option, then to take them to small claims court. I would do this with any telemarketer. There are laws set up where as you must be removed from their call list if you request it. I would check with your local states attorney, for those laws.

I attended a Ron Legrand Pretty houses bootcamp in Indianapolis on April 19-21. I was unhappy with the way the class was going, after the first day, and took them up on the refund offer they have if unsatisfied on the first day. I kept the courses they sent me in the mail so they just refunded the difference(minus the courses)and the young man told me he wasn’t sure how fast the refunds get processed. I accepted that and proceeded to check out of the hotel the same night. A MONTH LATER, I called to check the status of my refund, having not yet recieved it, and they told me refunds are processed 30 BUSINESS DAYS after all paperwork is recieved from that particular bootcamp session. I was told my refund paperwork wasn’t recieved until the 16th day of May(more than 3 weeks after the bootcamp). So expecting to see a refund 30 BUSINESS DAYS after the 16th of May, RIGHT!
I’M STILL WAITING!! SO THINK TWICE BEFORE TRUSTING A NAME!!

Dan,
I too have experienced the “rip off”. I signed up and paid for a 1 day “bootcamp” early in my career. I was told the course manual was included and that it would be there when I arrived (I tried to get it shipped to me so I could study it).
I drove from NJ to Balimore MD for this event. I got to the hotel and no one was there. The hotel said the event was moved to another hotel. Since it was 8am, I had to wait until 9am to call SDI to find the new location. BTW, there were a handful of other attendee in the same boat.
Anyway, when I got there 2 hours late they told me the course was an additional $300. I was a bit p.o’ed to say the least by now.
I called SDI and they told me that I could get my money back if I didn’t want to attend. I decided to leave.
I asked for my refund. One was promised. I called, and called. “Oh your refund request was sent to Mr. X for approvel. You will get the refund any day now”. No refund.
I wrote a letter to SDI and then to my credit card company. I got my money back from VISA.
But I never bought another product from SDI.
Let me say, I like and respect Ron LeGrand. ihave learn so much from the books I did buy (I purchased his Cashflow series at the ‘99 CREonline Convention)
But I do not think he has control of his own company. Or he doesn’t know what is going on with customer relations.
I have been solicitated many time from SDI to attend many types of Bootcamps. Yeah right! NOT.
Just give a course book and CREonline for support and I am doing business.
So, I guess my point is… Dont’ take any crap from SDI, and lean on them and dispute the charge with your credit card.

Exactly how is Ron Legrand a rip-off?

I am attending one of his seminars this Friday and Saturday, and no I am not buying anything. I am going just because it is free.

I do not need to buy anything as I the areas of REI that I get into, well all the info on here is free.

Eventually I will get into the subject too’s but I am still building up cash reserves for that.

Now I know of several investors in the Portland area that use Legrands subject to courses, and they are wildly sucessfull.

Maybe it is one of those things where he cannot control the marketing of his courses as he has outsourced it and lost all control of it in the contracts.

What is it exactly that makes Ron LeGrand a rip off?

I hear people say this and that is a rip off all day long. It’s starting to get old.

What were you expecting out of the workshop? What did you get? What could have made this a better experience for you?

Hopefully you paid by credit card, if so immediately file a dispute with them! Put everything in writing, protest with the RLG people and keep copies of everything.

Do not assume that all will work out for the better just because you’re ab honest person. Rather assume that some people are more than happy to rip you off. Sad but true. Protect yourself and your rights.

I don’t think he said the boot camp was a ripoff. He is saying that he never got a refund, which IS a ripoff! I am sure LeGrand’s boot camps are great - that’s usually the consensus. But be forewarned that refunds and customer service are not SDI’s strong point.

Actually, I had exactly the same experience with SDI.

We hosted a conference at which LeGrand spoke. 2 people returned courses and were never issued refunds, despite promises of SDI. Since my organization collected the money, we got screwed because the customers disputed the charges with their credit card companies. It took us over a year to get that money back from SDI.

In the interim, SDI asked me to speak for them. I told them they I heard about their reputation for delaying payment to speakers (several speakers I know VERY well). I was told that 30 days is the standard for payment. I told them that I would only speak if I were paid within 7 days of the event, which they agreed in writing.

Of course, a month and a half later, after several faxes and a lawsuit threat, I got paid. I have since declined to speak for SDI.

I cannot comment on LeGrand’s bootcamp, but I have heard good things. But the comments about SDI are consistent with my personal experiences and those of dozens of others I have met.

I have to tend to agree this is a rip off. I went to a seminar here in Chicago in September and fell for the offer he gave on the 4 boot camps ( 7K). I sat back and re-evaluated my finacial point now and decided to cancel within the 10 day no risk guarantee. It was the 9th day when I called and all I keep hearing was how they were denying my refund. I am still fighting to get back over 7K. The customer service is terrible. If you ask for a supervisor, they tell you there is no one that you can talk to above them. Funny they don’t even own the company, but there is no one over them. I am a newbie and bought his 3 courses to get started, but 7k when you have a JOB and living tight is tough. I like alot of information he provides but I have found out ways to pursue the information I want or need now and will NEVER deal with SDI again once I get my refund which I was promised by some woman in customer service in writting.

i receive calls from them at least once a month trying to get me to buy products, attend courses, etc.

everytime i tell them i am not interested and ask to be removed from their calling and mailing list and wish to receive no further contact from them.

yet they keep calling…is there some type of consumer protection law that can make them stop soliciting?

thanks.
