Another American consumer ripoff: the lumber tax - Posted by GL(ON)

Bush already thought of that.

The US government levies a 29% tax on softwood lumber imported from Canada.

This has thrown the lumber industry of British Columbia into a depression, bankrupted sawmills and lumber workers.

It also means American consumers must pay a lot more for their lumber products.

As for NAFTA, American business only seems to favor free trade when it means big profits for themselves. If they can make more profit through protectionism and high tariffs, you don’t hear any more about free trade.

I met some guys back in the spring who said they always go to Canada to buy their kitchen and bath cabinets. They rent a truck, drive up from DC to Canada, buy their products and then head back to DC.

They said even paying to rent a truck, labor and fuel that they still saved a bundle.

They asked me if I wanted to go in with them but I declined. Do you know if this is commonly done?

P.S. I thought I saw you this past weekend in DC protesting NAFTA.
