That’s tough. Removing the first couple of layers of slate won’t be tough. The transition is what’s gonna get ya. The bottom slate, you’re gonna hafta lift those up to get the felt under there right, and seems like it’d be tough to do that with slate. We don’t have slate roofs much here. I’ve never bought a house with slate. All the slate roofs I’ve seen are very old. I’d probably just put on a new composition roof, depending on the neighborhood.

As for all new soffit, facia, and gutters all around. I’ll take my typical 1300 sf house. Materials would run $1000, that’s with plastic gutters. Take 2 guys 3-4 days to knock it all out, including painting. I’d pay them $300/day total. Usually I pay $300-350 per day for 3 guys that know what they’re doing. Pay much more for what I consider skill trades like electrical, plumbing. I don’t consider AC installation a skill trade, excpet for hooking up the electrical and setting up the condensing unit right. But back to the carpentry stuff. Looking at around $1000 labor. $2000 total for the job.

Hey, I am getting contractors to give me estimates on a roof job and was wondering what I am looking at here. Here it is, It is a steep slate roof and it is in pretty good shape except around the edges and it is leaking there. I was wanting to get all the edging replaced with like 3-4 rows of shingles, all new soffit and facia and gutters all around. Any ideas of what a ballpark figure of this work will be? Thanks in advance for any info!
