I’ve found a few abandoned homes, which have been that way(according to the mailman) for a year or two. I went to the courthouse to look up the owners and came up short. Now, should I get a title company to do this for me or someone tell me how to correctly do this myself. Just for arguement sakes, lets say I did the search wrong.

In most states it is the county assessor’s office. Since you don’t say what state you are in, it is hard to tell you more specifically than that.

Many of the more-populous counties have the assement roll online for free these days. Call and ask.
