My wife and I recently moved into a townhouse in arkansas, we’ve been here about 3 months. My wife is now pregnant and is getting sick when she goes downstairs because of a real bad smell. ( i believe it is mold). we found another townhouse and called to give our 30 day notice to the landlord. She replied we can’t move out, whether we give her a notice or not, and started talking about suing us if we did.
I was wondering if there is any law or person I could contact about breaking the lease if mold if found?
I have a person coming to check for mold, so i can get a notice or report if found. But if found what can i do?
I can already see mold behind the fridge, but don’t know what to do.
please help with any advice… thanks.

Since your wife is pregnant she more than likely sees her doctor regularly. She should ask the doctor to write a letter that states the mold is making her sick. Send the landlord a copy of the letter along with the mold report and your notice to vacate. Be sure to put in your notice to vacate that you and your wife are protecting the unborn child.
