you have to sell it, but you can bid if the noote allows (may always be able to bid)

I’ve got an offer pending to purchase a note of a property that is currently in the preforeclosure process. If I decide to purchase it, and complete the foreclosure process, can I take the property back, or do I have to sell it at public auction at the courthouse steps?
