I meant that a title co. might be able to tell you quickly what you’d need to clear title to yourself, with this exact property, at this time…and whose signatures you’d need on what docs.
You can find the NY Statutes and quickly read how an estate is to be distributed when there’s no will.

My mother died a few years ago and did not leave a will (NY state). The taxes on her house have not been paid since her death and the property will soon be auctioned. I am going to pay the delinquent taxes and take possession of the house. What do I have to do to get the property put in my name? My siblings have agreed to sign quitclaim deeds. I did not find anything in the archives pertaining to this specific problem, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Every state has its own laws regarding “intestate succession”, that is, how to pass assets and title to heirs when there’s no will.
It is set out in specific statutes in every state.
Whereas most any NY lawyer could tell you what NY law is, with probably a modest fee, a local title co. might be able to do if for you too.
