what kind of fuel are you using? if it’s gas, I’d say to run baseboard radiators and put two gas fired hydronic units in each building, and two gas meters. then you have them paying their own hot water, cooking, and heat. you can run the pipes right through the ducts.

Hi All-

Love this site. I have a question for all you seasoned investors. Looking at acquiring 2 duplexes. Both places have only one furnace and the current landlord pays the heat bill. I don’t want to have to pay the heat bill for my tenants, so I was looking at adding a Furnace to each duplex and have the tenants pay their own heat.

Has anyone had experiences with this, as far as costs?? Also, if I can’t split the heat due to the previous duct work, how do you handle the gas/heat bill on a multi-family home?

Thanks,
Scott
