we have an electric instant heater for the bathroom. It about the size of a shoe box and is mounte on the wall. It uses 220v electric, and of course is only on when the hot water is turned on. Its sufficient for the bathroom only, and does not heat the water in the kitchen. Electric heating of water is not cheap but the savings are that it is infrequently on.
I’m thinking about axing the giant hot water tank, and replacing it with one of those handy dandy constant hot water tankless jobbies. I think that’s the official name.
Anyone have experience with these? First, I’m wondering how efficient they are. Second, I’m wondering how effective they are.
I’m thinking I live alone, and it should be fine, for me. However, this is a 4 bedroom, and figure some day I’ll sell it to a family, or have a family. Also, how well would these things work if I say…had a house full of company staying for Thanksgiving, cooking, cleaning dishes, lots of people using showers, etc? Can these things possibly keep up the same as the units with storage tanks? Perhaps buy one now, and add one as I need it?
I saw these on a documentary about flats in Europe and they really excited me. They’re so small. I’d love to find out how they work for you if you decide to go with them.
there are constant water heaters that work very well.
they are gas and different sizes depending on your demand. for a large house with several people it would require the largest unit or a unit for showers etc and another for the rest., still a lot smaller that a tank.
they are not cheap but work very well and save a lot of fuel. home depot usually has the or can get them. Also check with the local gas company.
