Darn! I tried it and had the same difficulties. As Matx mentions, it seems impossible to fax from a Vonage voice line to a “mail-to-fax” service. I will try the other tips that he recommended.

I signed up for myfax.com service because some of you had recommended it a few months back. I seem to be running into a lot issues with their service such as documents getting truncated, fax not transmitting even though the senders get a confirmation etc. I wantto know if you are having similar experience with their service (in case you subscribe to their service as well). Please share your experience.

thanks

Hi Kazi,

I was one of those that recommended myfax.com to you.

I have had zero problems receiving faxes through the service. Actually, I had the same problem that Michaela did where my ISP thought their emails were spam, so I just changed a setting to fix that. Otherwise, no issues receiving incoming faxes.

I have had some problems sending outgoing faxes from my Vonage phone line TO my myfax number. (I sometimes want to do this so I can email docs to people.) The line seems to get a poor line quality and then disconnect during the first or second page. I’m not sure if this problem is with Vonage or myfax, since I don’t have any issues sending outgoing faxes to other fax numbers. I was going to spring an extra $10 for a Vonage fax line to see if that fixed the problem, but again, I don’t have problems sending to other fax numbers…just myfax.com. My other solution could be to just scan the documents in and email them, but I seem to be “scanning challenged”. The docs are always to big to email. Any opinions from the techies out there?

I’m using tollfreemax and I’m happy after the first few hickups. One of the problems with them, and it might be the same with myfax, is that some of the email providers like hotmail, yahoo etc will treat the faxes like spam.
I lost some faxes that way. They arrived, but the email that forwarded the fax never came through and the fax was lost in ‘space’.

So, since I have a business website, I used my email address from that site, which rolls over to my hotmail address. Now I have no problems at all. But going directly to hotmail was a problem.

Sending fax via Vonage/VoIP - Posted by matx

Posted by matx on July 29, 2008 at 19:46:22:

It’s Vonage (or VoIP) and it also depends on your fax machine and the fax machine/service on the other end. In my case, it’s almost impossible to fax to another fax-by-email number.

You could try these:
-Turn off ECM on your fax machine
-Turn on Overseas Mode–this works best for me. You have to do this every time you send fax.
-If these don’t work, you could have Vonage adjust the paketization rate to be optimal for voice/fax combination.

I’ve dealt with this problem for 6-7 yrs and called Vonage for numerous times. It also depends on the quality of underlining cable service–when TWC had quality problems in this area, it was almost impossible to send fax.

Good luck!

The local Board of Realtors offers a service to members called MongoFax. You fill out their fax cover page and fax whatever you want to their 800# (I think it is an 888#). They then send it to whoever is on your cover sheet in electronic form as an e-mail. I some times send stuff to myself so that I now have it in electronic form to send to whoever I want to.

Has anyone else seen this??

Michela,

Thanks for your response. I actually log on to my account on their site to check the status of a fax. I think may be I should subscribe to efax.com, although they are more expensive. Today a potential tenant faxed her lease option application with confidential info; and I never received it. She is not very happy thinking that someone else may have got hold of her info. I know that it won’t be the case, but overall I am not very with their service.

Thanks for the tips, Matx. I will give them a try. I haven’t called Vonage, because they told me at the outset that I should have a dedicated Vonage fax line for faxing. I’m using a Vonage phone line for voice and fax. I wonder if having their dedicated fax line would even make a difference?

Thanks for waking me up, Steve. My local MLS offers MongoFax. It would probably solve my problem. I’ll give it a try.

Though incoming fax service only, I’ve been using Paketel for a few yrs and am pretty happy with it (much better than eFax, I think). More info will be e-mailed.

Probably not. I don’t think fax over VoIP is perfected yet.

Vonage used to give me credit for failed fax transmissions, but now they don’t unless you get a dedicated fax line.

One other thing Vonage told me to do is not to split the phone line over voice and fax. So now whenever I send fax, I switch the line to the fax machine.

If you google “fax over VoIP”, you get a lot of tips.
Also, this site is very helpful--www.dslreports.com
I think there were some threads on fax in Vonage Forum.

this is your wake up call!!

my local board of realtors recently changed their mls provider and at manadatory training, the trainer talked about it. At the time it meant nothing to me.

Since I do other things and not re sales full time, I finally talked with my broker and he explained how great it was. I have used it a few times and it is cool.

You should check it out.
