I got the same crap from someone looking for new investors in Cincinnati. When I didn’t want to buy into his corporation, and graciously backed down, his response email looked a lot similar to the response you received. He was claiming that I was a staller who would never get anywhere in life because I didn’t want to do his house hunting for him, and how he was doing $15,000 deals every week, and I was destined to spend my life working for someone else blah, blah, blah…

Funny thing is, every time he emailed me with his insults, I retorted by making him look even dumber with my kindness in my own defenses. He proved to be every bit as sophomoric as I claimed he was being and when the battle of words was over, he was wishing me to have a nice day.

Amazing how people turn out when you show them how stupid they are sometimes.

Over the years we have been called scam artists, con artists, charletons, etc., etc, etc.

There are goofy folks out there! If we took any of it seriously we would never keep this site going.

Like others, we just let these messages fill up our trash bins and enjoy the many, many great posts and emails that make the whole thing worth while.

I don’t know how the title became a put-down, unless maybe it was Bugs Bunny.

Trust me, this response is NOT typical of those you’ll receive on this site. As someone else said, probably just some kid with the day off from school.

I’ve been posting here for years, and I use a real e-mail address, and I can count on one hand the number of crank e-mails I’ve received. It just goes with the territory…there are always “maroons” out there who take advantage of the internet’s anonymity.

When you are using the information you’ve learned from this site to negotiate deals worth thousands of dollars, this character, if he’s fortunate, will probably be the voice at the other end of the speaker asking, “Do you want fries with that?”

Besides, it’s nothing compared to what you’ll face in the real world, dealing with sellers and buyers, many of whom easily qualify as top-of-the-line maroons. Just use the .0001 second it takes to hit the delete button and forget about it.

I have criticized this message board before, and you pulled the post without comment. So I’ll try again.

Understand that I’m not criticizing your site, but rather the software you are using. You are using Matt’s message board, which is rather primitive in a number of ways. Now I use it too; you can see it here:

but this particular site is not high traffic and the shortcomings of Matt’s message board don’t bother me too much - although I have had to take some steps to deal with automated message board spammers.

There are several shortcomings to this board, and one of the big ones is that you have no way to validate identities or email addresses.

You can solve that problem by using this board:

This is a much nicer board, easier to navigate and requiring much less bandwidth (which matters to dial-up people). It also provides a comprehensive mechanism to validate email addresses by requiring posters to sign up, and not letting them post until they respond to a validation email.

This is my new content site, and the message board - as you can see - is just getting started. Actually, the whole site is just getting started.

Setting up this board was a breeze. It went very quickly, and worked right out of the box. I am requiring users to register, but I am not (yet) using the verification features.

This board does require an sql database on the back end and your hosting provider would have to provide that.

I think you would greatly enhance your message board by making a change like this, and you would also find it to be easier to administer the site. With the amount of traffic you get here, it is something you should consider.
