While I am not a lawyer, and my opinion is just that.
After 12 years it is real hard to say it was pre-existing. Even so there probably is some statute of limitations, that would not let you go after the sellers. The lawyers would only be the ones benefiting from such a lawsuit. Take your money and make the repairs

While remodeling the basement in the home we have owned for 12 years, we discovered that one of the walls was actually a false wall, which covered up the fact that the foundation is bowed in considerably. What are our legal rights concerning the fact that this issue was “hidden” from us when we purchased the home?

How do you know this did not develop during the 12 years you owned the house. In order to win a lawsuit, you would have to have some proof. Since you just discovered the false wall, you have no way of demonstrating the wall was bowed before you bought it. I would guess that it was and that the false wall was constructed to hide it, but maybe they just did not want to look at concrete/brick/cinder block and preferred the finished look of a drywall wall.
