That is a terrible position to be in. I believe we all remember the horror stories with Fairfax Mortgage.
I suggest that you immediately make copies of your canceled checks for the past 3-6 months showing your payments on the mortgage and send them a written letter that states you are not behind on your loan. This needs to be in written form as some people do not record phone calls. Be sure to reference your name and loan number. In the future, each month you make a payment, record that payment on your amortization schedule along with the check number and the date it cleared your account. If you do speak with someone on the phone, be sure to write down their name, the date and time you spoke and a detailed description of your conversation with them.
One thing to remember is that when you send in extra payments on your mortgage, the next payment is still due on the payment due date. You cannot skip a payment like you can on an automobile loan or installment loan.
Another thing, most mortgage servicers now have a website where you can access your loan online. You should check this website after making each payment to ensure that it is recorded properly. It only takes a few minutes each month and will help to calm your nerves.
Your bank may have a website where you can set up automatic payments to the mortgage servicer. This way you are in control of the payments and the servicer cannot debit your bank account.
Good luck.
