#1 - If they don’t return phone calls, you don’t want them. If you have trouble reaching them now, what will happen when it is closing time and you can’t reach them? Make sure they return phone calls in a timely manner.

I’m in the process of shopping around for loans. What are some of the doos and don’t when choosing a mortgage broker/Company to work with? What are some of the things to look for, and what are some of the tricks of shady brokers?

Thanks
William

Make sure that the loan officer discloses IN WRITING any application fees, origination fees, interest rates etc., BEFORE you get to your closing. A lot of them will tell you that items such as application fees are waived and then conveniently forget to waive them. Then when you spot them at your closing, there is very little you can do about it since delaying your closing will most likely cost you $.
