Start with a dehumidifer. Do you have a bathroom exhaust fan? Is your dryer vented inside the unit. Definitely caulk your windows. Use a sealer paint such as “zinser” or “bin”, available at most hardware stores, on your walls and repaint them with the finish coat. Are any activities occuring in the unit that may be adding to the moisture problem. (one of my tenants likes to boil his vegetables in an open pot and then complains that his windows are wet.)

Use a gauge to determine the humidity in the unit. This will help determine if the mould, (moisture) is a result of cold air leakage or excessive moisture in the unit.

These are the easy fixes, new windows and wall insulation are the big fixes.

I have a house and there is mold around some of the windows. I have washed with bleach and it comes back about every two weeks. I think the problem may be the windows are single pane and not sealed very well. I was thinking about caulking around the windows. Also, there is mold on two outside walls that starts at the baseboard and moves its way up the wall and the same thing happens after I clean. There is no window on this wall, but it is an outside wall. This house has been freshly painted and all new carpet. I really want to protect my investment. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated

I have the same situation in a condo I’m rehabbing. I’m going to cut out the moldy sheetrock and replace it at the top of the window. I’ve already talked to the condo association and they’re going to check the outside. Good luck.
