Mobile Home Liens and Titles - Posted by Kelly
Posted by Kelly on February 20, 2007 at 13:56:29:
My father owns a mobile home in a San Diego, Ca. senior park with outrageous rents on spaces. In the 1980’s he took out two mobile home repair loans offered by the San Diego County Housing Commission. These loans were low interest and need not be repaid until the mobile home was sold and changed hands. Since then there has been a crisis in senior mobile home parks in San Diego county where no rent control is in effect. The space rent took my father’s entire social security check. He was able to obtain Section 8 rental assistance which allowed him to keep some of his social security for food and utilities. Now at 85 he has gone to a nursing home and Medical has siezed his social security to help pay for the nursing home and the San Diego Housing Commission has terminated his Section 8 for obvious reasons.
I can not sell his mobile home for the funds to pay off the mobile home repair liens and clear the title. No one will buy into a senior mobile home park with such high space rents. Many seniors have abandoned their mobile homes because of the high rent and no resale value. Seniors that will sell are forced to sell for $2000.00 or less just to have it towed to Mexico so they could get rid of their mobile homes and move in with children or out of state.
There is no money for further rent from my Dad and I will not pay rent for a mobile home I’m not living in and no one will rent it for the high space rent. I can not clear the title to sell it to a mobile dismantaler to have it towed to Mexico.
I’ve informed the mobile home park management of my situation and they have no immediate answers. What are my options?
