Hey Phil,
Nice seeing you again. One box will do. I use the post office for the same reason you do. Imagine, they actually beat private enterprise at something!

LLC PO Box Question - Posted by phil fernandez

Hi John,
Great Convention. I was looking at your course that Jeff Larkin bought on the plane home. Good stuff.
I now get all my rent checks and bills for my various LLC’s at one post office box. I know you told me to have a seperate checking account for each LLC, would I need a seperate PO Box for each one also or can I just use the one box.

Hey Phil,
It was great to see you in Atlanta! I would also like to know the answer to this question- but I can add that often P.O. Boxes and MailBoxesEtc boxes do not allow more than two (at most) names or entities on one box. I have had quite a bit of trouble with this from utilities, insurance, etc., all of whom have a name other than my company (the company manages for all other entities, but they won’t take the name off the address). Has this not been a problem for you, or do you use a private box?
take care, Phil!
Anne

My post office returned some bills to the sender because it was sent in another name. I had a conversation with the nice man behind the counter and told him I wanted ALL mail with that box number placed in the box. He said ok no problem, we’ll just “black line” it. He explained they take a black marker and draw a line through your name on the box which indicates ALL mail goes in the box. It seems to be an undocumented feature of the postal service.

Hi Anne. Absolutely another great convention. The beer even seems to taste better at the convention.
I talked to a real estate lawyer that I use quite a bit up here today about the mailbox question. He said I could use the same box and my local post office in the past has had no problem with it as long as I tell them the names of the entity. I have about 12 of them going to the same box.
My concern came in focus at the convention as I had my SFH’s in seperate LLC’s , but lazily ran all the income and checks I’d write to pay for expenses through my general, personal account. John Hyre told me that my LLC’s could possoibly be pierced that way and I should have a seperate business checking account for each LLC, which I have done today. I never asked him about being able to use the same mailing address or seperate ones , but he did say the big thing was seperating the checking accounts. One distinct checking account for each LLC.
Still waiting for a definitive answer.

That would seem to get around the (recent Patriot Act change?) postal service rule requiring that one can add additional addressees only if they show up in person with two forms of id, both of which must show a local address.
