Depends on the state, in most states you can use any individual that lives in the state including yourself or an entity if they are registered with the state. If you don’t want to use yourself, and you have a relationship with an attorney already you could you them if they consent, or you can use a registered agent service, it’s up to you. I don’t think you can use a P.O. Box for the agent for service of process, or for some filing with the state check with the state. You can use a P.O. box to do R.E. business for mailing, the post office is real strict these days, you will need to show proof of your identity and the LLC’s identity to receive mail at a box. Processes have to be served to an individual, which is why you have to have an in state Registered Agent. To that end, a PO box will not do. I use either (1) my Property Management Co in TX, (2) CPA in AZ, (3) an attorney who will only charge me if he does work in CO and (4) a friend in NV. All are acceptable, they just want a warm body to hand the process to.
