Might be the place to start. Try changing it back to full hardware acceleration and see if that changes the result of your screen refresh of the messages.

JP - disappearing messages - Posted by michaela-ATL

JP,
I have noticed the past couple of days, that, if i’m adding a post and try to send it, then click return to change something (or the subject line is too long, or i forgot my email address or something) the whole post has disappeared and i have to rewrite everything.
Could you check on that, please
thanks
michaela

Hi,
Your posts have not disappeared. After you post and return to the board, you must click on the “Reload” Icon at the top of your screen to see your own message.

i mean the messages disappear before they’re posted. you know first you write the post, then you click ‘submit’. if you then read something, that you want to change you’re supposed to click ‘back’, but when id o that the message is gone. that’s fine if it only happens when i change, but it also happens, if the excisting subject line is too long (the only way it can be shortened is to go back).
some of my messages, that you see on the board once have been written 2 or 3 times to make it on the board.

How to fix it… - Posted by Nate(DC)

If you hit “back” and everything disappears, and you forgot to copy it like John suggests, don’t despair - just hit “forward” again and it’ll all reappear, then you can copy it, go back again and fix it.

When that happened to me in the past, I just corrected the subject line and submitted it anyway, even with the errors.

Cut and Paste - Posted by John Behle

My worst problem sometimes is that I type something so fast and then hit some kind of key on the left and - whoosh - it’s all gone (nothing to do with the board here).
One option is to type your post out in a word processor and then cut and paste the text when you are finished. That way you also have the advantage of a spell check and can save it to come back to it again.
A direct fix for the error you are running into can be to select and copy the text before hitting the back button. Then if it is gone, you just hit paste and it is all as it was before you hit the back button and ready to edit.

ron,
that’s fine, if i’m on the page, that allows me to write in. But if i’ve already submitted and it tells me, that the subject line has too many characters, and if i then click back, then everything is gone and i have to start over.
But since oone else seems to have the problem, then i guess it’s just my 'puter.

Michaela–(GA)----------
What I was trying to say is that you can modify the subject line after you get the error message. You cannot modify the message itself. But at least you can submit it by just revising the error line and not have to retype your input.
If you had something in the message itself that you felt was just too horrible, you could attach a “follow-up” post to your original post with the correction you would like to make.

This could very well be. Have you changed anything recently, assuming it used to work before. It could be a browser setting that allows that memory to hold while you go back to it. I looked at IE5.5 just now and I can’t think of what option it may be, if it is there that you can set this.
If it used to work, then the 1st thing to check is for anything you may have changed recently. If it never worked before, then check the options under your browser to see if anything looks like an option for this.

Ron,
thanks, i didn’t realize, that i culd write in the 2nd panel. I’m so used to just click back, because the name and email address disappears. long subject line doesn’t happen so often, but rather, that i see some mistakes and try to correct them and automatically click back without thinking.
I just have to get used to stopping myself before i do it.

bruce,
thanks. Myabe there’re others, that have the same problem, but haven’t had the need to click back and therefore aren’t aware of a problem.

Tim,
As a matter of fact, i bought a homedesign program and I had to change the graphics setting, but that’s all.
I can’t swear to it, but I believe this problem started a few days before I changed the setting (2 days ago).Hardware acceleration from ‘full’ to ‘none’
Do you think, that would have had the effect?
