You may as well get it now, because you will need it to open a bank account in the name of the LLC.

This can now be done by phone so it only takes a few minutes.

Is a taxpayer ID number required for an LLC? - Posted by Elizabeth

My husband and I are going to form an LLC to purchase an investment property. We will both be members of the LLC.
Will we need to apply for a taxpayer ID number?
If so, when should it be obtained?

But if it’s a single-member entity… - Posted by Marc in Portland

If you and your husband file jointly, then it sounds like you could set up the LLC as a single-member entity which would be disregarded by the IRS for tax purposes. In which case, the Tax ID would be the primary taxpayers SSN.

At least that is my impression of it all…I’m not an accountant. Heck, I don’t even play one on t.v.
