Insurance for more than 4 units?? - Posted by Mary

State Farm is being very conservative in writing new policies at the moment. Right now in Maryland they are not writing ANY new homeowners policies unless you have an existing homeowners policy with them.

Call an independent insurance agent that represents multiple companies. They may have better luck than a “captive” agent (i.e. State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide) which represent only one company.

Insurance for more than 4 units?? - Posted by Mary

I have used State Farm for years on multiple properties. I am buyin some new duplexes and insurance agent said that there has been some changes in the insurance business and it may be difficult to insure any more. They have a new 4 unit rule. I sold two duplexes and I know my buyer had a heck of a time finding insurance too. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Mary
