Barney was one of the few people in the real estate industry with as much education and experience. In my opinion the average IQ and creativity of the entire real estate industry just dropped with his loss.

Everyone in this industry has been influenced for the better by Barney whether they have even heard of him before. He was the educator of educators and when it comes to creative techniques, there is little new here that wasn’t taught by Barney years ago. Many of the new courses, techniques and strategies that people rave about are not new, but re-packaged ideas of Barney’s.

Barney was one of my favorite people and one of the people in this industry I most repect. I took some other courses before taking a two day seminar of Barney’s back in about 1979 - but no course before or since may have influenced me more. He literally cracked my skull open and expanded my brain creatively like no other. Barney took me to my first exchange meeting and was always one of my favorite faces to see at a convention or event.

I will dearly miss him.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Barney Zick, Great speaker, great man, yes he was the first that I know of to lecture on lease options and similar products. I saw Barney about 2 years ago in New york .
The first time I saw him was at the great Mark Haroldsen Seminars in early 80’s and have seen him several times since. I heard that Mark Haroldsen had a bad accident in Hawaui and that is why he is no longer on the map.Associates like Wade CooK were also present and later become stock expert until he was arrested.

Many years ago Barney some how came into my life and was counseling me through the mail. He sent me hand written advice and often we spoke on the phone. As payment, he sent me to his home to give his young son drum lessons.
I eventually lost contact w/ him personally, but I would often stumble upon some articles about him in the newspaper. Most recently, I would call his office and could not get past the gust-topp0!

I was shocked when I received the email announcing Barney’s option for the earth has expired so he was off doing deals in another space.

More seriously I first saw Barney present sometime around 1984. Between his stories and the fact that he really understood the math behind the deals he was suggesting I was impressed. Some really creative ideas that would be beneficial to all parties in a transaction. As a CCIM Commercial Broker Barney could really run the numbers when evaluating deals.

More recently I had the pleasure of needing a CD replaced when I purchased a course. I sent email to the main email address. I was surprised when it was Barney who fields the email and cc’ed me when he sent a message to one of his staff to get me a replacement.

We definitely lost one creative RE investor and educator. I completely agree when John says the average IQ has dropped. Barney was a whole lot more then a guru with a course to promote.

I can’t believe it is over two years already. It was such a surprise, but I guess Barney kind of kept the cancer secret.

How sure are you about the Mark Haroldsen accident? Robert Allen had a bad car accident a couple years ago and Mark Garrison was hurt badly in Hawaii. Could it be Garrison they were talking about?

I talked with Mark Haroldsen about a year ago and he didn’t say anything about an accident. I’ll see if I still have his email address and if he is OK.
