How to print postcards using MS Word?? - Posted by randyOH

Posted by randyOH on February 03, 2004 at 18:00:37:

I would like to send out some postcards to a very targeted group. I will not be sending a very large volume. So I would like to just print them on my computer using MS Word.

I could not find any info using the help function of MS Word.

I am using the standard 3.5" x 5.5" postcard.

Anyone have any tips for how to do this? I would like to avoid reinventing the wheel.

I am aware of USPS. But I am assuming this does not work for very small mailings or would not be practical.

Why would USPS not work for small mailings? I use it everyday to send out 3-100 postcards. I’ve had so much trouble printing address and the text correctly on my computer, I go with USPS all the time now.

I don’t have a special program, but I have used Word to print a lot of cards.
I’m sure there is a better way, but it has worked for me.
You can buy card stock that is perforated or have Office Depot or similar store cut the cards for you.
You can give them a diskette with your Word file and they will print and cut the cards for you rather inexpensively.
I’ll be glad to email a sample of some cards I use.
What will you use the cards for & what will they say?
Good luck,
Travis in Dallas

John,
Thanks. How much does it cost to send three postcards? Do they save your ad copy? Then you just submit the addresses in any number as needed?

What kind of software do you use to compile your mailing list. I would like to do repeat mailings.

Travis,
Thanks for the reply. I just bought the postcards from the post office.

I will be sending out to people in default. It will be the standard WE BUY HOUSES thing.

I just need to figure out how to format Word and get the cards to go through my printer. Just thought maybe someone could save me some research time.

I think its about 30 cents per card. I use the two sided option (text in the back, addresses in the front) B/W.

The USPS automatically saves all your ads and your mailing list.

I developed one custom Visual Basic program that can quickly convert addresses from printed media into usable format (in my case it goe into mysql database).

Then I have some costom web based codes that display, modify, update, generate USPS mailing list format, etc.

I have been using this for about 2 years now and I have some valuable info in the database ready to be manipulated as I please.

use MS Publisher, use the four-up format for postcards.

Print out a front side and a back side on separate pages.

Go to Staples and have them make copies onto cardstock.

They’ll cross-cut them for you for a small fee.

Your cost will be about $.08 per card.

However, if speed is not critical, use USPS and your costs will be lower.

Why not print labels?? - Posted by Bobk

Why put the cards thru the printer? Use Word to format mailing labels - it has many pre-packaged templated for most every label you can buy… Print the labels out and stick them on the post cards…
