i dont think you should ever offer only a resume referrence to somebody for work they do for you. Web design is work like any other job and shouldnt be given away for free. Give the kid some money… dont be cheap.
Especially when you consider why we all come to this site… esentially to help us make money. Like you, they have a skill that should be compensated for.
Would you invest your time into selling a house for somebody in exchange for a worthless resume reference.
My web designer is top notch however he is a tad bit more expensive than your “do it yourself” site.I wrote all the content and he made it what it is.One thing to keep in mind if you want a website just so you can tell your friends about it or put it on your business cards forget about it.It will prove to be a needless expense. However if you plan to market it online and through various other sources it may be beneficial.Make sure you select a webdesigner that knows how to market your site. Its worth paying someone to do it right.Just some advice. You can check my website out at www.soldin2days.com Good luck to you!

Beore you go out and buy MS FrontPage and “HTML for Dummies”, stop. You need to start by asking yourself what you think you’re going to get out of a website. Then weigh that against the money, time and effort you’ll undoubtedly have to spend building and maintaining the website, which most people underestimate. IMHO, the vast majority of real estate investors get no value out of their websites (in other words, they don’t make any more money because they have a website). In fact, I’d even argue that it’s a distraction that will hurt your business because it takes up your valuable time. You’re an investor, right? Stay focused and spend your time on the real value that you add which is probably finding deals, negotiating deals, closing deals, managing rehabs, managing rentals, etc.; not dilly-dallying with HTML to impress your friends and family. And also consider that there are many bad, amateur websites out there that really don’t make their owners look professional and, again, that doesn’t help your business either. (One caveat is that if you’re selling books/tapes/CDs, then a website is probably useful.)
…or any of their competitors. It’s an easy – and free – way to build your own website. I did mine (for free) and it was super intuitive and easy. If you can maneuver around Windows than you can work Homestead’s website builder. A site costs you about $17/mo with a lot of pages, free set-up, 2 email accounts. And, most importantly, you look official!
There are all sorts of easy to use self publishing software packages for making websites out these days. Check out download.com. If you don’t want to do it yourself there are plenty of unemployed web developers who would probably help you out for a minimal fee. You can also check with some schools in your area and see if a student will help you out in exchange for a resume reference from you.
