How Do I set up business entity for tax purposes - Posted by Peter

Hi. I am setting up my LLC company. For personal safety and privacy, I don’t really want to set up my company address at my personal residence . I am looking at renting a mail address box at the post office or UPS and use that as my company address. My office will be at my home. My question is as follows: Can I do that? If I set up my company this way, can I still claim my home office deducations? Are there any legal consequences setting up a business that way? Any recommendations? Thank you.

When my LLC was set up they needed a mailing address as well as a physical address. I used my home address at the time with no problems. You should be able to deduct home office expense.

These are dictated by STATE law. You don’t say what state you are in, but doesn’t matter, the vast majority of us here would not know your state law anyway. Check with a local attorney.

Thank you. So you used your home address as your physical address and something else as your mailing address, right? Thanks.
