Newly issued permits were up 1.7 percent to a 1.76 million-unit rate in October on a 2 percent gain in the single-family sector and 1 percent rise on the multifamily side.
Garczynski noted that the backlog of unused permits rose in October, apparently due to builders delaying the start of new projects because of unusually wet weather conditions. “We wouldn?t be surprised to see a bump in starts with a return to normal weather patterns,” he said.

the general public almost always confused about true market conditions.
They only read the headline grabbing news.
One month the public is universally convinced the sky is falling.
The next month they change their beliefs to a more moderate - or even optimistic - outlook.
Very seldom does the general public look beneath the surface of these monthly market statistics to get a better grasp about trends and what is really going on.
This is especially true at major market turning points. They don’t know the trend has changed until it becomes obvious - then, of course, its too late.

But it can make you take notice that this number is also the lowest it has been in almost 9 years. How it gets interpreted is up to each individual.
