House turned over to Social Serives. Can I buy? - Posted by LeonNC

I recently had the problem of dealing with a medicaid lien on a property. It may be that the State social svcs has a lien on the property and they intend to bid their lien at the auction you’re talking about.

Before you get all excited and waste your time, (1) get comps on the property, (2) get in touch with the Dept. of Social Svcs for your state/town which will probably be a lot of phone calls, but hang in there, (3) inquire if they have a lien & the amount of the lien.

If the home is worth significantly more than any lien, you should probably pursue it for yourself, pay off the lien & you have yourself a home. If the home is worth just a little more than the lien, walk away from it.

Good luck.

I’ve finally found the owners daughter of a house I’ve been looking at for a while. It’s vacant and abandon.

The daughter says she had to turn over his house in order to get social services to take care of him and put him in an elderly home.

She said social services is going to auction the house. I’m just wondering if anyone has dealt with this before. Can I get it before it goes to auction?

Thanks,

Leon
