In Virginia, I have ask the local tax assessor office for a tax sale on property that has unpaid taxes since 1997. They simply refuse to take any action. The record shows the owner is unknown and the last person to have ownership is dated 1911. Is their a process I can used to claim the property by paying the taxes or by claiming some kind of ?squatters rights?? I find the same is true for paper streets. Please let me know, I am finding multiple lots that fall in this category.

Thanks

The article suggests hostile claim of the property over a period of 15 years, that’s a long time. Is there a quicker away?
