If I were you I’d get busy bringing those puppies up to code, here’s a really good reason why. Let’s say you have a fire later this year and god forbid someone (or two, or three) dies. Two years from now you’re sitting in court on the wrong (defendant’s) side of the room being asked by a plaintiff’s attorney if you had ANY REASON TO KNOW OR SUSPECT that your building was not up to CURRENT FIRE CODE, or any other reason why your building may pose a HAZARD TO LIFE.

Trust me on this YOU don’t want to be in that position, particularly if me or one of my loved ones die in the fire. My attorney is one tough son of a gun and he’ll turn you inside out.

I own 8 condos in a 24 unit complex in Clarksville, Tn. Blg was built in 63’. I got an inspection report from the fire dept recently. In it I was notified of 8 discrepancies. They used the 2003 standard for blgs not the one that was in force in 1963 when the blg was built. They mention this in the report–e.g. couldn’t find a copy of 1963 standard so we used the 2003 version! Doesn’t seem legal or even logical–can you help?
