When we relocated a few years ago we had already decided to change CPAs. We asked the agent who we were using to buy 6 units in the new area as well as another agent in another office. BTW, both of these agents owned rentals and/or had some flipping experience.

We did a quick “phone interview” with both, we picked a time of year when we knew they wouldn’t be too busy, (note to BobH-that would NOT be this time of year), and went with the one we felt most comfortable with.

Unless you’re doing a lot of “exotic” stuff in REI it shouldn’t be that difficult. Most of ours if pretty straightforward, a couple of rentals (actually none anymore) rehabs, flipping with us carrying first mortgages, etc. The only “exotic” thing that we get into is when we have to foreclose on one that we had financed-hey, it happens. That’s the stuff that I really feel he earns his fees on!

I there a better way to find an cpa that is invester wise other than wading through the local phone book?
