Finders fees…Illegal? - Posted by Bob-MD

Since finder’s fees are illegal in many states, especially if you are a licensed agent, is there a legal way around the issue? Are these arrangements just being done under the table to avoid liability?

Bob,
From what I understand consulting fees are not illegal.

In our local association they actually have gift certificates and other giveaway items you can give as
“finders fees” so to speak.
I believe the idea being that your not giving a
“cash” fee, but a food type gift.
I guess you could buy $500 worth of restaraunt certificates and hand those to the guy. He wouldnt have to worry about eating for a while.
Just a suggestion, nothing more.
