Couldn’t tell you I have a M105, and I’m happy with it. They also have a IIIc color one for $119 that didn’t look too bad. I don’t know about the OS stuff. I have Docs to Go which I can import Excel spreadsheets. Wrote my own quick loan calc in Excel and brought it over, take 2k of memory. It’s a pretty good deal.

…I like for the Palm if you are willing to spend some money. This assumes the Palm you buy does not already have a TVM program built in.
I have switched to the PocketPC which comes with a built in TVM calculator. On the HP Jornada I have to be careful to enter the sign convention correctly because the program can provide an incorrect result instead of an “error” message.
Cordially, Robert

Did your Palm come with a program called Parens Lite? This has a TVM (Time Value of Money) calculator on it. If not, you can go to www.probe.net/~rhuebner/index.html and download the full version of Parens for a trial period. It only cost $5-$10 if you decide to keep it. This could be better than buying an HP.
I tried the full version, but found that I personally only used the TVM and basic math functions which come on the “Lite” version, so I did not purchase the full version. The full version has all kinds of conversion type calculations on it, such as how many seconds in 1.4 yrs, or what is 53 deg F in Celcius, and even can convert currency (you go to the website to download the most current info on the exchange rates).
Also, on the web site above, you can read/print the instructions on how to work the calculator. I had to read parts of this to figure it out. If you find you have Parens Lite or if you download Parens, and you are having problems figuring it out, feel free to contact me with questions.

Go to ZDnet.com and download “Abacus” it is a clone of the HP-12C financial calculator. I’m sure that there are other financial calculators on this same web site but after using the 12C for the past 19 years its kind of hard to change to anything else.
My Visor has multi-function calculator, including a financial calculator w/amortization, etc. This comes standard. Are you sure you don’t have one on your Palm??

Hi,
I am looking for instructions on using Parens Lite on my Palm Tungsten/c. I have not been able to access it on the web site. Could you please help me.

Huh, I’m not seeing it out there. A search on Abacus does produce results, but the closest thing to a calculator that I can find is Abacus 3.0 which is an equation editor for Excel. Is this it?
Thanks,
Tom

Actually, I don’t have a Palm Pilot, but I have been thinking of getting one. I know I need a financial calculator and if I can get the same thing on a Palm (or Visor), I may just go ahead and get a PDA rather than strictly a financial calculator.

Yep!! I noticed you had not yet bought your palm. Meijer had a palm on sale last week for $99, might want to go check that one out. It is equal or better to the one I bought last year for half the price.

David,
Is that Palm as Meijer an M100? I say this because we have a Meijer close to us and they have a M100 for $99 and an M105 for $149. Personally, I have been eyeing the M125 beacause it can be recharged rather than having to buy new batteries.
I purchased an mtv music generator 2 , playstationt c.d over a week ago via half.com and haven’t recieved it.There was no way to even complain about this , I had a hard time even finding this link to make a comment. I would really appreciate it if i could know what’s going on . Thank you.

Is there much difference between the Palm Operating System 3.5 and 4.0? Can you upgrade from 3.5 to 4.0 or whatever is the latest? I’m a Palm newbie, so please excuse the questions if they are a little ignorant.
Thanks,
Tom

Make sure the $99 palm comes with the port and software so you can “sync” it with a computer. If it cannot, that might be worth $50. One problem (not for me, but for my wife and some people at work) with the batteries is that if they are dead for too long, you lose all data. That is where the "sync"ing becomes important. I feel better knowing all the info is on my computer and that I can recoup it to the palm if required. Just some more info to think about.

Yes, I believe the palm I saw was a M100 or like. I have a PALM III and it takes 2 AAA batteries. It seems to last several months on one pair of batteries. It is up to you, but all other things being equal, you can buy alot of AAA’s for $50.
I sent you an e-mail with an excel spreadsheet that might meet your needs in the short term for a financial calculator.
