As a re investor, and evolutionary scientist, let me say that you can overcome your fear by realizing that we here on earth are very primitive. We are but mere nothings.

This causes us to have inferiority complexes, which in turn causes fear. Overcome fear by knowing that you are only dealing with other prmitives, no big deal. Never worship, or put anyone on a pedastal, never put anyone above yourself. Also never consider anyone to be lower than yourself. Everyone is equal, from viruses, to insects,to fish,to dogs,to horses, to all Humans etc.

In a class I once took, FEAR was defined as:
False
Endangerments
Appearing
Real

I to am a newbie and I think my biggest FEAR was picking up the phone, and even worse What if I found someone who actually so motivated that they met the numbers I was looking for. OH NO WHAT NOW!!!
Well I have forced myself to pickup the phone, and the more I talk to sellers the easier it gets (to pick up the phone and make the calls). My wife and I are now in the middle of our first deal. I can not tell you how she felt but when I was sitting at the table filling out the contract my insides were turning upside down. Ok now we have a contract how in the world am I going to complete this??? ohhhh nooo. We talk with a gentleman who has been very kind with his time helping to teach us this business, and boom there is the money for the rehab and were now partnering the deal. There are alot more feelings involved and to be honest I probably will not be excited about it until all the dust settles. Heck I dont think I slept at all the night we signed the contract. It is slowly sinking in that it is just a house. Does this sound familiar??? If so then your not alone. My wife and I have taken that first step, and are looking forward to the next step together in this business. FEAR, DOUBT, yeah its all there but we are have decided that these emotions will not control us. Heck if we let every fear or doubt or what ever take control we would never open the front door. There are people that are out there doing this business everyday! Are they different from us? NO, its just there chosen profession. So why cant it be ours ?

Hi K.Smith:
I have been in real estate since 1966, and there’s always a horror story of some kind in real estate, but it’s kind of like lightning.
Now for the fear factor. Since you don’t say what type of real estate courses you have taken and read about I will go with a single family home O.K…
First, fear of failure. Ask yourself failure of WHAT?
Then list them. Then one by one mark them off. Remember
or try to, There’s no such thing as failure. Even if you try real estate and have a bad time, it’s not failure. You will learn something. Don’t let anyone and
I mean anyone! Even yourself, say you are or I am a failure.
Next, fear of financial ruin. How can I get around this? Is this first house the house that I’m going to
live in or are you living in a house and going for an investment property? It really does make a difference.
If you are going to live in it, and to reduce your fear have a buyer’s real estate agent to help you. The agent plus the loan company and title company will steer you clear or should steer you clear of most problems and won’t let you buy unless you can afford it. You can do the same with an investment property on single family homes. After about one or two your fear of ‘what ifs’ will diminish and you can go on your own and later laugh at the fear you have now. But you have first got to break the ice somehow-sometime.
I hope this helps.

You could do what I did: go partners with someone even stupider than myself, buy the first thing that looks halfway decent and come out smelling like a rose.

Or start small. Do you own your own home? That is a good way to get started. Shop for a good deal on a house to live in, using the techniques you have learned. By the time you are done you will no longer be afraid of real estate.

I’m just barely starting out and don’t know much about all the niches in investing in RE yet. BUT…I do beleive I can offer advice on helping you to overcome your fear.

First thing I think you should do is just take a step out there and get the ball rolling. Just take that little piece of action towards getting and finding your first deal. Meet with sellers. Call sellers. ETC…

Second thing that I personally think is important to grasp about financial success is that money is pretty much just an idea. You can have either an abundance of money or you can have not enough money. It’s completely up to you and what you beleive. It’s actually really hard for me to think of a way to explain how I feel. But I beleive that once you realize that money isn’t really important and it’s actually very easy to get money then I think you can see where I’m coming from. And I would reccomend reading motivational books such as the ones by Robert Kiyosaki. AKA. Rich Dad Poor Dad. These will help you see that a world exists out there made up of exactly what you want. But I’m not saying go get these books and get all pumped up and THEN go out and start looking for deals. I would reccomend you get those books WHILE your looking for a deal. But get started right NOW, don’t wait until tomorrow or until you learn a little more. Do it NOW. Start calling sellers in the paper or whatever you need to do. Get your fear out of the way by taking steps.

Also I think if you haven’t already done so I would HIGHLY suggest writing down your goals and what it is you want to accomplish. Then break those goals down into smaller parts until you come to the point of doing something every day that adds up to you reaching your final goal.

And the last bit of thinking I will leave you with is… You only live your life once, so spend your time doing what you want. And after you die how much you’ve accomplished is left behind. So what’s to fear. You are eventually going to die. And what you accomplish in your life is totally up to you. What I’m trying to say here is that you have nothing to fear cus you get to live this life once. So make those mistakes and errors so you can get past them and onto the greater deals that will allow you to live a life you want. “Not meaning to sound harsh or anything of the nature. Just how I see it.”

Maybe this can help you? But the most important thing you can do RIGHT NOW is start taking action. Taking action will demolish your fears. Don’t start tomorrow or in a couple of days or until you finish learning something. Cus a day will turn to a week and then to a month then years and etc… so you would of never taken action and still be where you are today. In fear of making a mistake. So I say take action, make mistakes, grow and learn more from your mistakes and enjoy the life you want that most of the people in the world don’t want to try to reach “work” for.
