That is a really big question! Here are my recommendations: Al Aiello’s Goldmine of Brilliant Tax Strategies for the tax planning (very important!) of what you are seeking…and as far as legal structure, Bill Bronchick has good stuff.

ROI: How much/when depends on what everyone in particular has in mind, there are no “set” numbers. (At least beat the stock market, though!) Just be careful with legal structure b/c with certain entities, you must distribute equally or proportionally to investment…

I know that this is a general question, but is there any understood expected ROI that non managing investing partners of a development project expect to earn, and is there a certain time frame in which they expect to earn it? Also, what are some commonly used ways to structure compensation packages? Thank you for any help you can provide.
