Maybe Yes, Maybe No.

If the gas company is the only utility using the easement they might release it.

It is very common that residential lots have easments in alleys and along the front or back for utilities, ie., sewer, water, gas, etc.

One common easement for all utilities, not a bunch of them running helter skelter through the neighborhood.

If this is true in your case and the other utilities are using the easement it will not be removed.

Good luck,

A local gas distributor has a 20 foot easement through my property which has an old 4" gas line. The line leaks quite badly and they have been very slow to repair or replace it. The leak is so bad that on still days you cannot go outside without getting sick. They talked about putting a 2" plastic line inside the old 4" metal pipe but have not done so. My question is this, if they shut the gas off and abandon the line can I get the easement removed ?
