Hello. I am looking to buy a couple of boarding houses. I have had experience in past years, but am looking to improve. I wondered if anyone knows if it is legal for me to have random drug tests required for the boarders. I want a zero tolerance community (I know that’s asking a lot). I would like to know if it is okay for me to do this.

I own a rooming house if i had that policy i would not have a single room occupied.I get most of my tenants from the welfare office. Most of these guys are homeless till the worker calls us. Sometimes after we rent to them we never see them again. Ithink if you tried this it would not work.Do not try to put your values on these people it will not work. If you are worried about what people think of you for owning a house like this maybe you should not buy it. It can be very profitable but it is management intense.
