I won’t bore you w/the long list of reasons that as a landlord I do not now allow pets of any kind (“including dogs, cats, rodents, birds, fish, reptiles & insects”), but I have spent thousands of rehab dollars & weeks of labor because of the adored pets of tenants. You think this is unfair, but you having a pet that can bring in fleas or barf on the carpet isn’t fair to the landlord (who probably learned the hard way that tenant pets are expensive). Surely your dog wouldn’t behave in a destructive or pest-ridden manner, but you can understand that allowing your dog to stay when other tenants are not allowed to have dogs is not fair either. What puzzles me is why tenants living in a space that is specified as pet-free feel they can still bring in an animal (or several). No offense to your cherished pup, but if you were my tenant I’d have served you notice the 1st day the dog appeared.

I recently got a new dog. I live in a rental/Co-op apartments. The management company that owns my apartment says I can have a dog. The management company that ownes the apartment complex says I cant. If you own a co-op your able to have one dog in your apartment. If you rent or sub lease your not allowed. I dont see what the preoblem is since they allow the owners of the apartments to have dogs. It not fair that one but not the other can own a dog. My pet does not disturbe any one nor does she damage any part of my apartment. She does not bark when Im not home and I always pick up after her out side. Is this legal in NY to have rules that apply to some but not others in NY please Help.

Sincerely,
