Difference between WI & WA Real Estate Law - Posted by lauretta

Since both WI and WA are community property states, probably not much different legal scenes.

We’re a DOT (deed of trust) state and our foreclosure law could be somewhat different from WI so you should bone up on that before you take the WA Lic. exam…we’ve all become a LOT more knowledgable about that in recent past, for some reason

WA law and regs are contained in RCWs and WACs (WA Agency Code and Regs) and can easily and quickly be found online. RCW 64 contains most of our RE Stats.

There are 2 bound books you might want.

First, there’s a paperback book I’m recalling is published by the State of WA, containing all the current RCWs and WACs that’s handy for referece. WA DOL could robably quickly tell you where to acquire this one, or U of WA Bookstore on University Ave in Seattle could get it for you.

Also there’s a book on WA RE law published by Rockwell Pub. Co, written by Alan Tonnin, Atty and this is a basic legal resource for RE folk here. Tonnin has been an authority on WA law for eons, and his book is written for non-lawyers so its easily read and understood.

Good luck on your move west and your transition.

If I can help or answer any questions about WA law or RE licensing give me a shout…as a WA lic RE Broker I live with this stuff daily.

I’m transferring my WI Real Estate license to WA state. I need to test out with only the WA Law portion. Anything in particular that is different from WI?
