Where do I look for info on requirments and getting the dealers license in MS? I have looked everywhere I can think of and no dice. I am moving there in less than a year and before I buy “Deals on Wheels” I want to make sure I can even get into this business.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Paul.

I dont see how to make this license thing happen. In MS, you have to have a lot, signs, office with restrooms and such. When it comes time for your yearly renewal, you have to have at least 3 units on your lot.

Do you you guys do it under the radar, or do you have a deal with someone that is a dealer?

HELP!

Robert

I’m no expert, but here’s my two cents.

State laws vary all over the place but from what I know of my state, it is obvious what is the INTENT of the law. That is to regulate people who conduct business just as you have described (a lot, inventory, etc). Instead of just grabbing your ankles when the state legistlators insist on sticking it to you, try to read the ACTUAL law, ever line. Somewhere you will find a clause or stipulation that will probably preclude you from being a “dealer”. For example, you could have a real estate agent close the transactions for you. Also, weigh the consequences of going against their fascist system. Even if you get caught you probably just pay a fine and move on.

I would caution you about how you treat your customers. ALWAYS treat them fairly and within the guidelines of your state’s consumer protection guidelines. If you get labled as someone who rips people off they might stick it to you in court.

I would PREFER to operate as a licensed dealer in my state. However, they have made so many silly rules and regulations that I just don’t have the energy to do it their way. For example, there is a ruling on record that says that if you participate in the mobile home industry in ANY way (salesperson, dealer, mover, manufacturer, etc) that you MUST be licensed. Yet, the law also states that in order to be licensed you must have at least two years in the mobile home industry. Tell me that ain’t a catch 22…

I beleive this is handled by the State Fire Marshall.
A Google search should get you your answer.
