Act mature.
You want to attract people and circumstances that will help you accomplish your goals and objectives.
Dress appropriately.
Don’t hang out with your skateboard or college buddies during the time that you ought to be hanging out with business people.
You don’t need to grow a beard or mustache or something more dramatic.
You might consider joining Toastmasters which is dedicated to public speaking and leadership. These skills will become essential to your success.
Don’t tell wild stories to prospects at this time, and by that I mean, avoid embellishing your qualifications, experience, etc.
Also, successful investors can usually “smell” money. Just because you decide to wear expensive clothing or drive a Ferrari, it doesn’t mean you have a nickel of net worth. Don’t worry about that. You’ll just be trying to impress the wrong people and then worse, get caught up in the insanity of trying to work ever harder to impress neighbors you don’t know and people you don’t like, with money you don’t have and a life of fleeting satisfaction.
I’ll bet that you’ve alrady began to study what successful people do, so continue to observe the traits that serve them best. You don’t have to mimic them and certainly don’t follow their lead as to bad habits.
And, very important, make your best investment in yourself by reading, studying, and attending every applicable seminar or event related to your desired area of expertise.
Here are just a couple of books by one author that you might enjoy: “Winning through Intimidation” and "Million Dollar Habits, " both by Robert J. Ringer. Neither titles reflect the real content or topics covered in the books.
Your query sounds very sincere and appropriate for a young person starting out. It should also resonate with every successful investor-type who can remember what it was like for them at your age.
You ought to be able to tap into this latter point with someone who you will learn to call your mentor. Real mentors don’t charge to return what was so freely given to them!
Hope this helps.
