Seems like a lot of money for someone that basically does nothing. All a registered agent does is accept service of legal papers if you are sued and pass them on to you. Seems like a great business; make a lot of money and do almost nothing for it… I think I need to look into that.

There are lots of co.'s online that set up LLC’s. How much should I pay?? Average price I see is $500 for minimal filing. It includes having them as a registered agent. Can I use someone else as the RA or is it better to use the co. that initially files the paperwork.
I’m a newbie, thanks.

You can use who ever you want as the agent. Sometimes people will use certain companies set up specifically for this purpose. Do they charge for this service other than the $500 for setting up the LLC?

Many people prefer not to use one of the members to help protect anonymity. Depends on the state. In some states you must disclose the individual members with the filings, others you don’t.

There is a charge of $149/yr included in the $500 fee, for the registered agent service. It’s optional.
